Worcester 115 kV Underground Project

POWER provided engineering and design services to support the route selection, permitting, licensing and installation of an underground, 3.4 mile, 115 kV electric transmission line between the Vernon Hill and Bloomingdale substations in Worcester, Massachusetts. Since both substations are located in heavily congested urban areas, placing the circuit underground was the obvious choice. Scope of work included assisting in the preparation of the application to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Electric Facilities Siting Board. Doing so required investigating several routes and selecting the preferred route for the installation of the 115 kV underground transmission line between the two substations. Upon selection of the preferred route, POWER proceeded with the engineering and design of the 115 kV line including the cable system and duct bank. As part of the engineering and design scope, POWER was responsible for preparing cable and accessory specifications, plan and profile drawings, construction drawings, construction specifications and providing construction support.
