POWER Engineers was responsible for the upgrade from electromechanical relays to new SEL-351S overcurrent relays. This distribution substation consisted of four 13.8 kV distribution buses with a total of 13 underground and overhead feeder circuits and two capacitor banks. Protection was developed for the incoming feeders, bus ties, and outgoing feeders. Included in this project was the task of confirming proper coordination using ETAP. A capacitor bank control scheme utilizing the SEL-351S that allows five various steps to be brought online or taken offline via pushbutton or remote control was also implemented. The project also included design and implementation of a SCADA system for the substation.
