POWER Engineers provided engineering services for an advanced, high-efficiency combined cycle plant for the City of Vernon. The Malburg plant is notable for its attention to minimizing environmental impacts: the plant utilizes natural gas and technology to reduce NOx emissions to an exceptionally low level of 2 ppm. The plant also uses recycled treated municipal wastewater for boiler makeup water and water for the plant cooling system. The Malburg combine cycle project consists of two Alstom GTX100 (SGT-800) frame-type natural gas combustion turbine generators (CTGs) with dry low-NOX (DLN) combustors for control of nitrogen oxides, two Alstom HRSGs and one Alstom steam turbine.
