POWER Awarded Geothermal Power Project Design by Fuji Electric
HAILEY, Idaho (June 27, 2019) ‒ POWER Engineers, Incorporated (POWER) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Fuji Electric for detailed design work at the Olkaria I Additional Unit 6 Power Development Project. The project began in August 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2021.
POWER will provide detailed design services for global geothermal leader, Fuji Electric Co., Ltd (Fuji), the subcontractor to Marubeni Corporation, the main EPC Contractor to Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC. (KenGen). KenGen, the largest electric power generating company in Kenya, operates over 70% of the electricity capacity installed in Kenya. The Olkaria I Additional Unit 6 Plant is in the Hell’s Gate National Park, Nakuru County, approximately 120 km from Nairobi, Kenya. With the addition of this plant, Olkaria will be producing over 900 MW making it one of the largest geothermal fields in the world.
Marubeni, Fuji, POWER and other firms’ collaboration to deliver KenGen’s 70 MW class Olkaria I Additional Unit 6, will significantly increase the country’s output of geothermal energy. Kenya currently ranks as ninth in the world for geothermal output. Geothermal provides approximately 46% of the electricity consumed in Kenya. This is the first project that POWER has engaged in collaboration with Fuji.
“It is a great honor to work with POWER for this project. Their long and broad experience of geothermal power plant engineering at the Olkaria field provides us a huge support. We believe we make a good team and we are confident that we can deliver this project to success with POWER.
